Moses tells the people a hard but important truth about WHY God is being so good to them.
Today's Story
“Listen carefully,” Moses said. “God is about to give you a wonderful new home. But I don't want you to get it wrong about why.”
The people leaned in.
“Don't say in your heart, ‘God is giving me this because I am so good.’ That's not it,” said Moses. “God is giving it to you because He is kind, and because He made a promise long ago.”
Then Moses reminded them of a sad day. “Remember when I went up the mountain to be with God? While I was gone, you got scared and made a fake god — a calf out of gold — and bowed down to it. That made God very sad. You forgot the One who saved you.”
“So I prayed,” Moses went on. “For forty days I begged God to forgive you. And do you know what? He did. He is that kind.”
The people grew quiet. God wasn't good to them because they were perfect. He was good to them because He was good.
A Big Word

Talk About It
- Has someone ever forgiven you when you did something wrong? How did it feel when they were kind to you anyway?
- The people made a fake god while Moses was away. Why do you think it's so easy to forget God when no one is watching?
- Moses prayed and prayed for his people. Who is someone you could pray for today?
