Hebrews is a letter written to help God's family keep trusting Jesus.
This part of the letter tells about a whole parade of people who trusted God, even when they could not see how things would turn out.
Today's Story
What is faith? The letter says, “Faith is being sure of what we hope for. It is being certain of what we do not see.” Faith means you trust God even before you can see how the story ends.
Then the letter tells about people who did just that. Long ago, Noah trusted God and built a giant boat, even though it had never rained like that before. People probably laughed. But Noah kept building, because God said so.
Abraham trusted God too. God said, “Leave your home and go to a new land I will show you.” Abraham did not even know where he was going! But he packed up and went, because he trusted the One leading him.
Moses trusted God when he led God's people out of a hard place. Others trusted God when things were scary, and God helped them be brave and strong.
None of these people were perfect. They just believed God would do what He promised. And that made God so happy. The letter says without faith it is impossible to please God.
A Big Word
Memory Verse
Talk About It
- When is a time today you had to trust someone, even though you could not see what would happen next?
- Noah kept building the boat even when it was hard. What is something hard you could keep doing because you trust God?
- Why do you think trusting God makes Him so happy?
