Hebrews 8 for Kids

For Kids · 3 min with a grown-up

Hebrews is a letter that helps God's family see how much God loves them and wants to be close to them.

Today's Story

Have you ever had a rule written on a sign? “Wipe your feet.” “Be kind.” A sign on the wall tells you what to do, but it can't help you want to do it.

This part of the letter shares an amazing promise God made. Long ago, God's good rules were written on stone — way up on the wall, outside of people. But God promised something better was coming.

God said, “I will put my law in their minds. I will write it on their hearts.” Instead of rules far away on a wall, God wanted to put His love and His ways inside us. Right in our hearts!

And God made another promise so kind it makes you smile: “I will be their God, and they will be my people.” That means you belong to God like a child belongs in a loving family. He knows your name. He picks you to be His.

The letter says this is a better promise, brought to us by Jesus. With Jesus, God isn't far away on a wall. He is close, helping our hearts learn to love what is good.

Talk About It

  1. What is a family or group you belong to? How does it feel to belong?
  2. God wants to write His love inside your heart, not just on a wall. What do you think that means?
  3. God says, “You are mine.” How does it feel to know God picked you to be His?
