God's people had a habit of not listening. In this chapter, God gently calls them to really pay attention - because He knows the very best way for them to go.
Today's Story
God had something to say to His people, and He really wanted them to hear it. “Listen to Me,” He said. “Come close and listen.”
God reminded them who He is. “I am the First and the Last,” He said. “My hands made the earth and stretched out the sky. There is no other God like Me.”
God even told them things that would happen before they happened - so that later, when it all came true, they would know for sure that He was the one in charge, and not their little hand-made statues.
But God's people had a stubborn streak. They were like a kid who plugs their ears and hums. God knew they did not always listen. Still, He did not give up on them. He kept being patient.
Then God said something so tender: “I am the Lord your God. I teach you what is good for you. I lead you the way you should go. If only you had listened to Me! Then your peace would have flowed like a river, gentle and wide, on and on.”
God was not being mean. He was being a good teacher - the kind who knows the very best path and just wants you to walk it with Him.
A Big Word

Talk About It
- When is it hardest for you to listen - when you are playing, when you are tired, or when someone asks you to stop something fun?
- God said if His people had listened, their peace would flow like a river. What do you think a peaceful, happy day feels like?
- God is a teacher who knows the best way to go. What is one thing God has taught you that helped you?
