Isaiah 5 for Kids

For Kids · 4 min with a grown-up

Isaiah tells a song-story about a gardener and a garden. It is really a story about God and the people He loves and takes care of.

Today's Story

Isaiah sang a song about his friend who had a garden. But this was no ordinary garden - it was a vineyard, a special garden for growing grapes.

The gardener did everything just right. He found the best hill. He dug up all the rocks and tossed them out. He planted the very finest grapevines. He built a tower to watch over it and even made a special spot to squeeze the juice from the grapes. Then he waited, excited, for sweet, juicy grapes to grow.

But when picking time came - oh no. The grapes were small and sour and wild. After all that loving care, the garden had not grown the good fruit it was meant to grow.

Then Isaiah told everyone the secret of the song: God is the Gardener, and we are the garden. God had done everything to help His people grow good and kind and loving. But they had started doing the opposite - calling bad things good and good things bad, and forgetting to be fair.

It made God sad, the way it makes a gardener sad when his careful work does not grow sweet fruit. But God never stopped caring for His garden. He kept tending the people He loved, helping them grow the good fruit again.

A Big Word

Memory Verse

Talk About It

  1. Have you ever taken care of a plant, or watched one grow? What did it need to grow strong?
  2. God is the Gardener and we are His garden. What kind of good fruit do you think God wants to help grow in you - maybe kindness, sharing, or being patient?
  3. The gardener did everything for his vineyard. What are some of the ways God takes good care of you?
