Isaiah 58 for Kids

For Kids · 4 min with a grown-up

God's people were doing all the right church things on the outside. But God wanted to show them what He really loves - and it surprised them.

Today's Story

God's people thought they were doing great. They prayed. They skipped meals to show God they were serious. They said, “God, look how good we're being! Why don't You notice?”

So God gave Isaiah a message that turned everything around. “You skip your lunch,” God said, “but then you argue and you are mean to people. That is not what I'm looking for.”

Then God told them the kind of thing He truly loves. “Share your food with people who are hungry. Open your door to someone who has no home. When you see a child with no coat, give them one. Stop pointing fingers. Stop saying unkind words.”

And then came the beautiful part. “Do that,” God said, “and your light will shine like the morning sun coming up. When you help others in their dark times, your own life will glow bright as noon. I will be right beside you. I will be like a garden with water that never runs dry.”

God doesn't just want us to look good. He wants hearts that are kind and hands that help.

A Big Word

Talk About It

  1. Who is someone you saw today who might have needed a little kindness - at school, at home, or at the store?
  2. God said helping others makes your life shine like the morning sun. Why do you think being kind makes things brighter?
  3. What is one thing you have plenty of that you could share with someone who has less - food, a toy, your time?
