Isaiah 7 for Kids

For Kids · 3 min with a grown-up

A king named Ahaz was very afraid. God sent Isaiah with words to calm him - and a beautiful promise about a special baby.

Today's Story

King Ahaz had a big problem. Two other kings were planning to come fight against his city. When Ahaz heard about it, his heart shook like the trees shake in a strong wind. He was so scared!

So God sent Isaiah to find the king. Isaiah told him, “Be careful, and keep calm. Don't be afraid. Don't let your heart be worried. Those plans are not going to happen.”

God even said, “Ask Me for a sign, anything you want, to help you trust Me.” But Ahaz would not ask.

So God gave a wonderful sign anyway. He said: “A young woman will have a baby boy. And she will call him Immanuel.”

That name has a meaning. Immanuel means “God with us.”

It was God's way of saying: You don't have to be afraid. I have not left you alone. I am right here with you.

Talk About It

  1. What is something that makes you feel a little scared sometimes - the dark, a loud storm, a new place?
  2. The king's heart was shaking. What helps your heart feel calm again when you are worried?
  3. Immanuel means “God with us.” Where is somewhere God is with you that you might forget about - even your own bedroom at night?
