God gave Jeremiah his first message to share. It was like a gentle love letter, reminding the people how much God loved them.
Today's Story
God told Jeremiah, “Go and remind My people how things used to be.”
So Jeremiah did. “Remember,” God said, “back when you first loved Me? You followed Me everywhere, even through the empty desert. I took care of you the whole way. I gave you a good, good land, full of fruit.”
But then God grew sad. “What happened? You wandered away from Me. You forgot how I helped you.”
Then God drew a word picture so they would understand. “I am like a fresh, bubbling spring of clean water,” He said. “You can drink from Me forever and never run dry. But you walked away from Me. You tried to dig your own little wells to find water somewhere else — and those wells were cracked. They couldn't hold a single drop. You were thirsty, and I was right there the whole time!”
God wasn't saying this to be mean. He was saying it because He missed them. He wanted them to come back and drink from Him again — the One who would never run out of love.
A Big Word
Memory Verse
Talk About It
- When you are really, really thirsty, what is the best thing to drink? How do you feel after a big cool drink of water?
- The people tried to feel happy with other things instead of God, but it never worked. What are some things you think will make you happy, but the happy goes away fast?
- God said, “Remember when you loved Me?” What is one way your family loves God together?
