Jeremiah 20 for Kids

For Kids · 3 min with a grown-up

Even God's brave messengers had hard days. Today we get to peek at one of Jeremiah's — and at the honest way he talked to God about it.

Today's Story

Jeremiah was having a really, really hard day.

He had been telling people the true things God gave him to say. But lots of people didn't want to hear it, and they were unkind to him about it. He felt tired. He felt sad. He felt like nobody was listening.

So what did Jeremiah do with all those big feelings? He didn't stuff them down. He didn't pretend everything was fine. He took them straight to God.

“God,” Jeremiah said, “this is so hard. Some days I want to give up. Why is being Your messenger so difficult?” He told God exactly how he felt, even the sad and frustrated parts.

And here's the wonderful thing — God could handle every single word. God wasn't upset that Jeremiah was honest. In fact, right in the middle of his hard day, Jeremiah remembered something true and said it out loud: “But God is with me. He is strong, like a mighty helper at my side.”

Telling God the truth about his feelings actually helped Jeremiah remember that he was not alone.

A Big Word

Memory Verse

Talk About It

  1. Jeremiah told God when he felt sad and tired. What is a big feeling you have had lately — happy, sad, scared, or mad?
  2. Some people think they can only talk to God when they feel happy. Why is it good news that we can talk to Him about hard feelings too?
  3. After Jeremiah was honest with God, he remembered God was right beside him. How might telling God your feelings help you feel less alone?
