Job's friends have not been much help. In Job 16, Job tells them so — but then he looks up and remembers Someone who IS on his side.
Today's Story
Job looked at his three friends and sighed.
“I have heard so many words from you,” he said. “But none of them make me feel better. You are supposed to comfort me, but you only make me feel worse.”
“If you were the sad one,” Job told them, “I would say kind things to help your heart. I would not pile on more hard words.”
Job was worn out and tired. His friends were no help at all.
But then Job lifted his eyes up, up toward heaven. And his face changed.
“Even now,” Job said, “Someone in heaven knows the truth about me. God is my friend up there. He sees everything. He is on my side.”
And that one true thought gave Job strength — that even when no one on earth understood, God in heaven did.
A Big Word
Memory Verse
Talk About It
- When you feel sad, what helps you feel better — a hug, kind words, or sitting with someone? That is called comfort.
- Job said he would speak kind words to help a sad friend. What kind words could you say to a friend who is having a hard day?
- Job looked up and remembered God was on his side. How does it feel to know God is always on YOUR side, no matter what?
