Jesus gives one last beautiful picture of how to stay close to Him: like branches connected to a vine.
Today's Story
On His last night, Jesus pointed to a grapevine and gave His friends a beautiful picture. “I am the true vine,” He said, “and you are the branches.”
“Think about it,” Jesus said. “A branch can't grow grapes all by itself, cut off from the vine. It has to stay CONNECTED. The life and strength flow from the vine into the branch — that's how it grows fruit.”
“It's the same with you and Me,” Jesus said. “Stay close to Me, and I'll stay close to you. When you stay connected to Me, My life flows into you, and you grow good fruit: love, joy, kindness, patience. But apart from Me, you can't do anything good on your own.”
How do we stay connected? Jesus told them: “Remain in My love. And love each other, the way I have loved you.”
Jesus even said, “There's no greater love than to give your life for your friends.” And that's exactly what He was about to do.
A Big Word
Memory Verse
Talk About It
- A branch needs to stay connected to the vine to grow fruit. How do we “stay connected” to Jesus?
- Jesus said good fruit (love, joy, kindness) grows when we stay close to Him. Which “fruit” would you like to grow more of?
- Jesus said apart from Him we can't do good on our own. Why do we need to stay close to Jesus?
