John 7 for Kids

At a big festival, Jesus stands up and makes a wonderful invitation to anyone who feels thirsty inside.

Today's Story

There was a big, joyful festival in Jerusalem, and everyone was talking about Jesus. “Who IS He?” some asked. “He's a good man!” said some. “No, He's tricking people,” said others. People couldn't agree about Jesus.

On the last and greatest day of the festival, Jesus stood up in front of everyone and called out in a loud voice: “Is anyone thirsty? Come to Me and drink! Whoever believes in Me — rivers of living water will flow from inside them!”

Jesus wasn't talking about regular thirst. He meant the thirsty feeling deep in our hearts — when we feel empty, or sad, or like something's missing. Jesus said, “Come to Me, and I'll fill you up — so full that it overflows out of you to bless other people, like rivers of water!”

He was talking about God's Holy Spirit, who would come and live inside everyone who believes — filling them up and flowing out to others.

Some believed, some didn't. But the invitation was for everyone: “Are you thirsty? Come to Me.”
