When an angry crowd wants to punish a woman, Jesus shows that mercy is stronger than judging — and then He says, “I am the light of the world.”
Today's Story
Some leaders brought a woman in front of Jesus. She had done something wrong, and they wanted to punish her harshly — even throw stones at her. They were really trying to trap Jesus. “The law says to punish her,” they said. “What do YOU say?”
Jesus bent down and quietly wrote in the dirt with His finger. Then He stood up and said something that stopped everyone cold: “Whoever has never done anything wrong — let that person throw the first stone.”
One by one, starting with the oldest, the men dropped their stones and walked away. Because nobody is perfect. Nobody could throw a stone.
Soon it was just Jesus and the woman. “Where did everyone go?” Jesus asked. “Does no one want to punish you?” “No one, Lord,” she said. And Jesus said gently, “Then I don't either. I don't judge you. Go now, and leave your old wrong ways behind.” He gave her mercy AND a fresh start.
Later, Jesus said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows Me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” Jesus brings light into our dark places — and mercy instead of stones.

- Jesus said, “Whoever has never done wrong, throw the first stone” — and everyone walked away. Why couldn't anyone throw a stone?
- Jesus is “the light of the world.” How does Jesus bring light into dark or scary places?
