Judges 4 for Kids

For Kids · 4 min with a grown-up

God uses a wise woman named Deborah to lead His people and win an impossible victory.

Today's Story

In a time when God's people needed help, God raised up a wise and brave leader named Deborah. Deborah was a prophet, which means she listened to God and shared His messages. People came from all around to sit under her palm tree and ask her to help settle their problems with God's wisdom.

God's people were being treated cruelly by a powerful enemy with 900 iron chariots. So Deborah called a man named Barak and gave him God's message: “God says, gather an army and go! God will give you the victory.”

But Barak was nervous. “I'll only go if YOU come with me, Deborah!” So brave Deborah said, “I'll go with you.” Together, trusting God, they led the army out.

And God gave them a great victory! Even the enemy's mighty iron chariots couldn't stop what God was doing. God's people were finally free, all because Deborah listened to God and was brave enough to lead. God can use ANYONE who listens to Him and is brave.

Talk About It

  1. Deborah listened to God and shared His wisdom. How can we get God's wisdom when we need to know what's right?
  2. Barak was scared, but Deborah was brave and went with him. Who helps YOU be brave?
  3. God gave the victory, even against mighty chariots. What “impossible” things can God help us with?
