Judges 6 for Kids

For Kids · 4 min with a grown-up

God calls a scared, hiding man a “mighty warrior” — and shows that He sees who we can become.

Today's Story

God's people were in trouble again. Enemies kept stealing their crops, so the people were poor and afraid. A young man named Gideon was secretly threshing wheat, hiding in a winepress so the enemies wouldn't find his food.

Then an angel of the Lord appeared to Gideon and said something surprising: “The Lord is with you, MIGHTY WARRIOR!” Gideon must have looked around — mighty warrior? Me? I'm just hiding here, scared! But God didn't see Gideon as he was. God saw who Gideon could BECOME with His help.

“Go,” God said, “and I will use you to rescue My people.” Gideon felt weak and unsure. “But I'm the least important person in my family!” he said. God answered, “I will be with you. That's all you need.”

Gideon was still nervous, so he asked God for signs to be sure, and God patiently gave them. Little by little, Gideon began to trust that God really was with him, and that God would help him do big things.

  2. Gideon felt weak and unimportant, but God chose him anyway. Why does God love to use people who feel small?
