Leviticus 11 for Kids

For Kids · 3 min with a grown-up

God gave His people some special rules about food — to help them remember they belonged to Him in a special way.

Today's Story

God loved His people, the Israelites, and He wanted them to be His special family. So He gave them some rules to help them remember they belonged to Him.

Some of the rules were about food. God told them which animals they could eat and which ones they should not. There were rules about animals on the land, fish in the water, and birds in the sky.

Why did God do this? Every single day, when God's people sat down to eat, the food on their table reminded them: “We are God's special people. We live His way.” It was like a gentle reminder at every meal.

God told them the big reason behind all of it. He said, “Be holy, because I am holy.” God is pure and good and set apart, and He wanted His people to be set apart for Him too — loved, chosen, and special.
