Leviticus 19 for Kids

For Kids · 4 min with a grown-up

God gives His people lots of everyday rules — and they all add up to one big, beautiful idea.

Today's Story

God gave His people a whole list of ways to live. Listen to how kind they are!

“When you pick the fruit in your field, leave some at the edges for hungry people to come and gather.” “Always tell the truth.” “Don't take what isn't yours.” “Pay people what you owe them.” “Be fair — don't treat the rich better than the poor.” “Stand up when an older person comes near, and show them respect.” “Don't hold a grudge.”

That's a lot of rules! But do you see what they all have in common? Every single one is about treating other people with love. Sharing with the hungry is love. Telling the truth is love. Being fair is love. Respecting older people is love.

Then God said the words that tie the whole list together: “Love your neighbor as you love yourself.” Your neighbor is anyone near you — your family, your friends, the new kid, even someone you don't know well. God says: care about them the way you care about yourself.

All of God's good rules grow out of that one big idea: love.

A Big Word

Memory Verse

Talk About It

  1. When someone is kind to YOU, how does it make you feel? What kind thing could you do for someone today?
  2. God said to leave food at the edge of the field for hungry people. Who is someone you could share with this week?
  3. Loving your neighbor means anyone near you. Who is one “neighbor” that's a little harder to love — and how could you show them kindness anyway?
