God gives special rules to the priests — the helpers who served closest to Him.
Today's Story
In God's big tent, some people had a very special job. They were called priests. They got to lead the people in worship and come close to God to serve Him. It was one of the most important jobs of all.
Because the priests came so near to God, God gave them their own special rules for how to live. He asked them to be extra careful and clean, and to keep their lives set apart for Him. It was a little like getting ready before something very important — washing up and dressing nicely before a big celebration.
God was not being unkind. He was teaching everyone a big truth: He is holy. That means God is perfectly good, with nothing bad in Him at all. Coming close to a God like that is a wonderful, serious thing, and the priests got to show the people how special it was.
When the priests lived careful, set-apart lives, they helped all the people remember just how good and holy God is.
