Jesus tells a story about a man who had everything — except the one thing that really matters.
Today's Story
Someone in the crowd was worried about money. So Jesus warned, “Be careful! Life isn't about how much stuff you have.”
Then He told a story. “A rich farmer had such a huge harvest that his barns couldn't hold it all. So he said, ‘I'll tear down my barns and build bigger ones to store everything! Then I'll relax, eat, drink, and enjoy. I've got plenty for years!’”
“But God said to him, ‘You foolish man! Tonight your life is over. Now who will get all this stuff you stored up?’” The man had spent his whole life piling up treasure for himself — but he had no treasure with God. He forgot the things that really last: loving God and loving people.
Jesus said, “Don't worry so much about stuff. Store up treasure with God instead — treasure that lasts forever. Wherever your treasure is, that's where your heart will be.” Real riches aren't in our barns. They're in knowing God and loving others.
A Big Word

Talk About It
- The farmer stored up lots of stuff but forgot about God. Why doesn't “stuff” make us truly happy?
- Jesus said to store up treasure with God. What are some “treasures” that last forever?
- “Your heart will be where your treasure is.” What do you think that means? What do you treasure most?
