Numbers 12 for Kids

For Kids · 4 min with a grown-up

Moses had a sister named Miriam and a brother named Aaron. Today they had a problem with their words.

Today's Story

Miriam and Aaron started talking against their brother Moses. “Does God only speak through Moses?” they grumbled. “Hasn't He spoken through us too?” They were jealous, and their words were not kind.

Now Moses was a very gentle, humble man. He did not brag or fight back. But God heard every word they said.

God called the three of them together. “Why were you not afraid to speak against Moses?” He asked Miriam and Aaron. God was teaching them: be careful how you talk about other people.

Then Miriam became sick — her skin turned pale and sore. Aaron was scared. “Please don't hold this against us,” he begged. “We were foolish.”

And here is the beautiful part. Even though Miriam had spoken against him, Moses did not stay angry. He cried out to God, “Please, God, heal her!” God listened. After seven days, Miriam was all better, and the family traveled on together.

Talk About It

  1. Have you ever heard someone say unkind words about another person? How do you think those words made the other person feel?
  2. Moses prayed for Miriam even after she said mean things about him. Is that easy or hard to do? Why?
  3. Being humble means not bragging. What is one way you can build someone else up with your words today?
