God thinks of everyone — even someone who makes a terrible mistake by accident. So He makes special safe towns where they can be protected.
Today's Story
God was busy getting the new home ready for His people. He thought of every family — even the helper family, called the Levites, who took care of God's special tent. God gave them towns to live in so they would have a home too.
Then God did something very kind and wise. He picked out some special towns and called them safe towns.
Why? Imagine someone was working hard and a tool slipped, and another person got hurt — not on purpose at all, just a sad accident. Back then, the hurt person's family might be very angry and want to chase them.
So God said, “If it was an accident, that person can RUN to a safe town. There they will be protected. No one can hurt them while wise people listen and find out what really happened.”
It was like a place to catch your breath, where the truth could be heard and no one would be treated unfairly. God cared about being fair to everyone — even someone who had made a big mistake.
God set up safe towns all around the land, so a safe place was never too far away.
A Big Word
Memory Verse
Talk About It
- Where do you feel the safest? What makes that place feel safe to you?
- God made safe towns so people would be treated fairly, even after a mistake. Why is it important to find out what really happened before getting angry?
- God is a safe place we can run to when we are scared or sorry. How can you run to God when something goes wrong?
