God's helpers had a tricky job: every time the people moved, the whole holy tent had to be packed up and carried. So God gave each family a job to do.

Today's Story

God's family did not stay in one place. When God said, “Time to move,” the whole camp packed up and walked to a new spot.

But how do you pack up a giant holy tent? Very, very carefully! So God gave each helper family its own special job.

One family carefully wrapped the special things and got them ready. One family carried the heavy curtains and coverings. One family carried the poles and boards. Everyone knew exactly what to do.

The most holy things had to be covered up gently and carried just right — not dropped, not rushed, not treated like junk. These were the things from God's house, so the helpers handled them with great care.

When everyone did their own job, the whole big tent could be packed up, carried across the desert, and set back up again. It took teamwork. And it took treating God's things as special.

A Big Word

Talk About It

  1. What is something in our house that you have to carry very carefully? Why?
  2. Each helper family had a different job. Why is it good that not everyone did the same thing?
  3. The helpers treated God's things as special. What things in your life are special, and how do you take care of them?
