Numbers 8 for Kids

For Kids · 3 min with a grown-up

God's people were camping in the desert. In the middle of the camp was a special tent where they came to be close to God.

Today's Story

Inside God's tent stood a beautiful gold lampstand. It had seven little cups for light. God told Aaron, the helper-leader, “Set up the lamps so they shine out in front.”

So Aaron lit them. Seven warm flames glowed in the dark tent, pointing their light forward, lighting up the path. Anyone who came in could see.

Then God talked about a special group of helpers called the Levites. He picked them for an important job: taking care of His tent. Carrying it. Cleaning it. Keeping it ready.

But first they had to get ready. They washed up. They put on clean clothes. The whole camp gathered around to watch. The leaders gently laid their hands on the Levites, the way you might place a hand on a friend's shoulder to say, “You belong to this.”

God said, “The Levites are Mine. I am giving them this work as a gift.” And the Levites smiled, because being chosen by God to help is the very best kind of job.

A Big Word

Memory Verse

Talk About It

  1. When have you had a special job to do at home or at school? How did it feel to be the one trusted with it?
  2. The lamps pointed their light forward to help people see. Who is someone you could help see God's love this week?
  3. God said the Levites were a gift. Why do you think helping someone can feel like a gift to both people?
