Numbers 9 for Kids

For Kids · 4 min with a grown-up

God's people were camping in the desert on their way to a new home. God did not leave them to find the way alone.

Today's Story

God told His people, “Remember the night I rescued you.” So they had a special supper together, just like the night long ago when God brought them safely out of Egypt. It helped them remember: God takes care of us.

Then something amazing happened over God's tent. A big cloud rested on top of it. At night, the cloud looked like glowing fire. It was the sign that God was right there with them.

Here was the rule. When the cloud lifted up and floated away, the people packed up and followed it. When the cloud stopped and settled down, the people stopped and set up camp.

Sometimes the cloud stayed for only one night. Sometimes it stayed for many, many days. The people did not always know how long. But they watched the cloud and waited.

When it moved, they moved. When it stayed, they stayed. They trusted that God knew exactly where to take them and exactly when to go. So they followed.

A Big Word

Memory Verse

Talk About It

  1. Waiting can be hard! What is something you have had to wait for? How did it feel while you waited?
  2. The cloud showed the people that God was with them. What are some ways we can remember God is with us?
  3. Why do you think the people followed the cloud even when they didn't know how long the trip would be?
