Proverbs 23 for Kids

For Kids · 3 min with a grown-up

Proverbs is a book of short, wise sayings. Many of them are written like a parent gently teaching a child they love.

Today's Story

Have you ever been so excited about a treat - like cookies or candy - that you wanted to eat the whole plate? Proverbs 23 understands! It talks about sitting down to a big, yummy meal and learning to use self-control instead of gobbling up everything in sight.

But the chapter is really about something bigger than food. It says: “Use your ears to listen, and put your heart into learning.” When a parent or teacher is teaching you something good, the wise thing to do is truly listen - not just hear the words and forget them, but let them sink down into your heart.

The chapter also warns about wearing yourself out trying to get rich. Money can sprout wings and fly away like an eagle! So instead of chasing stuff, it tells us to chase wisdom - to listen, learn, and grow. A kid who really listens to good advice is becoming wise, and that is a treasure that will never fly away.
