Psalms 100 for Kids

For Kids · 3 min with a grown-up

Psalm 100 is a happy song. It's the kind of song you sing when you're so thankful you can't keep it inside.

Today's Story

Imagine a whole town walking up a hill together to say thank You to God. Mamas and papas, grandmas and grandpas, kids running ahead — everybody.

And they're all singing the same song. This song. Psalm 100.

It starts loud: “Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth!” Not a quiet, mumbly song — a big, glad, happy one.

Why so happy? The song tells you: “The Lord is God. He made us, and we belong to him.” We belong to God the way sheep belong to a shepherd who loves them and knows every one by name.

So the people come through the gates of God's house saying thank You, thank You, thank You. They tell God how good He is.

And here's the best part, the part that makes the whole song worth singing: God is good. His love never, ever runs out. Not today. Not tomorrow. Not ever.

That's a song the whole earth gets to sing. And you're part of the whole earth. So it's your song too.

Talk About It

  1. Psalm 100 is a thank-You song to God. What are three things you are thankful for right this minute?
  2. The song says we “belong” to God, like sheep belong to a good shepherd. What does it feel like to belong to someone who loves you?
  3. The song says God's love “never runs out.” Can you think of something that does run out — like snacks, or batteries? How is God's love different?
