Psalms 101 for Kids

For Kids · 3 min with a grown-up

Psalm 101 is a promise King David made to God. It is a song about choosing to be good and true, starting right at home.

Today's Story

King David sat down and made God a promise. Not a promise about what other people should do - a promise about himself.

He sang, “I will sing about Your love. I will live a careful, true life.” He wanted his heart to be clean inside, with nothing he had to hide.

And where did he say he would start? Not far away. Not on a big stage. He said, “I will walk in my own house with a true heart.” Right at home. With his own family. That is the hardest place to be good, and the most important place too.

David even watched what his eyes looked at. He said, “I will not stare at anything bad.” He knew that what we let our eyes look at can grow into what our hearts want.

David wanted to keep good, kind, honest friends close to him - people who told the truth. Bit by bit, his promise spread out from his eyes, to his home, to the whole city.

Being good is like that. It starts small, in the quiet places where only God sees.

A Big Word

Memory Verse

Talk About It

  1. David promised to be good even at home, where it can be the hardest. What is one kind thing you could do for someone in your own house today?
  2. David was careful about what his eyes looked at. Why do you think the things we look at can change what we want?
  3. Is it easier or harder to be good when no one is watching? Why? (God always sees - and He is cheering you on.)
