Psalm 103 is a happy thank-You song King David wrote. He lists all the wonderful things God does - and tells himself not to forget a single one.
Today's Story
King David woke up with so much thankfulness inside that he started talking to his own heart. He said, “Praise the Lord, O my soul! Do not forget the good things He does.”
Then he counted them, like counting presents. God forgives all the wrong things we do. God heals us when we are sick. God fills our lives with good things and love and kindness.
David wanted everyone to know how big God's forgiveness is, so he gave a picture. He said God takes the bad things we have done and carries them “as far as the east is from the west.” Point one hand east and one hand west - they can never, ever touch. That is how far away God throws our wrongs when He forgives us.
And then David gave the gentlest picture of all. He said, “Just like a father is tender and kind to his children, the Lord is tender and kind to those who honor Him.” God knows we are small. He remembers we are only dust. And He loves us softly, the way a good daddy scoops up a little one.
God's love is so big it reaches higher than the sky. No wonder David sang.
A Big Word
Memory Verse
Talk About It
- David thanked God for so many things at once. What are some good things God has given you that you don't want to forget?
- God throws our wrong things as far away as east is from west - gone for good. How does it feel to know God forgives you like that?
- The song says God is “tender and kind,” like a loving father. When is a time someone was very gentle and kind to you?
