Psalms 11 for Kids

For Kids · 3 min with a grown-up

Psalm 11 is a song King David sang when scary things were happening and people told him to run away.

Today's Story

Scary things were happening all around King David. His friends got worried. “David, quick - fly away like a bird to the mountains! Hide! It's too dangerous here!”

You can almost picture them, can't you? Flapping their arms, telling him to run and hide somewhere far away.

But David shook his head. “I'm not going to run away in fear,” he said. “The Lord is my safe place. Why would I fly off like a scared little bird when God is right here with me?”

David remembered something that made him brave. God is still sitting on His throne, like a King who never has to get up and leave. God is looking down right now, and His eyes see absolutely everything. Nothing surprises Him.

And David knew one more thing: God loves what is good and right. So even when the world feels wobbly and scary, God is not wobbly at all. He is strong and steady, like a giant rock that never moves.

So David didn't fly away. He stayed brave, and he stayed close to God.

Talk About It

  1. When you feel scared, what do you usually want to do - hide, run, or something else?
  2. David's friends told him to fly away, but he stayed brave because God was with him. What is something a little scary that you could face bravely with God?
  3. God sees everything and never moves away. How does it help to know God is steady like a giant rock, even when things feel wobbly?
