Psalm 12 is a song King David sang about words - the unkind ones people say, and the perfect, true words God speaks.
Today's Story
King David was sad about something we all bump into: words. All around him, people were saying things that weren't true. Some said nice words to your face and mean words behind your back. Some made big promises they never planned to keep.
“Help, Lord!” David sang. It felt like honest, kind people were getting harder and harder to find.
But then David remembered the most wonderful thing about God: God's words are never fake. God always means exactly what He says. Every single word God speaks is good and true.
David painted a beautiful picture of it. He said God's words are like silver. When people make silver shiny and pure, they heat it up in a hot fire until every speck of yucky stuff melts away and only the clean, sparkly silver is left. That is what God's words are like - pure, with nothing bad mixed in at all.
And God made a promise. When people are getting hurt by unkind words, God says, “Now I will stand up and keep them safe.” God always keeps His promises.
A Big Word
Memory Verse
Talk About It
- Has anyone ever said something to you that wasn't true, or said one thing and did another? How did it feel?
- God always means exactly what He says. Why is it so good to have a God whose words you can always trust?
- God's words are pure and kind. What is one true, kind thing you could say to someone today?
