Psalm 118 is a big thank-you song. Long ago, people sang it together on their way to worship God - some sang one line, and the rest sang it back.
Today's Story
Picture a big crowd walking up a hill together. They are happy. They are on their way to thank God, and they sing as they go.
One person calls out, “Give thanks to the Lord, because He is good!” And the whole crowd sings back, “His love lasts forever!”
They sing about all the times God helped them. “When I was scared, I called to the Lord, and He answered me,” they sing. “The Lord is on my side. I will not be afraid.”
God had been their strength when they were weak. He had been their safe place when things went wrong. So the people keep singing, louder and louder, “The Lord is my strength. He saved me!”
Then comes the line people still say today. The crowd looks up at the bright morning and sings, “This is the day the Lord has made. Let us be glad and full of joy today!”
Every single day is a gift from God. And every single day, His love is still there. So we can thank Him too - right now, wherever we are.
A Big Word
Memory Verse
Talk About It
- What is one good thing that happened to you today - even a tiny one?
- The song says God is “my strength” when we feel weak. When is a time you needed God to be strong for you?
- If God made today as a present just for you, how do you want to use it?
