Psalm 134 is the last in a special set of travel songs, and it is one of the shortest. It is a goodnight song of praise.
Today's Story
It is night time. The sky is dark and most people are fast asleep in their beds.
But some people are still awake. They have a special job: they take care of God's house all through the night. They keep the lamps burning and make sure everything is ready for morning.
This tiny song is for them. It says, “Come on, all of you who serve the Lord at night - praise Him! Lift up your hands and praise the Lord!”
Isn't that lovely? God is worth praising even in the middle of the night, even when it is quiet and dark and everyone else is sleeping. We do not only love God when the sun is shining. We can love Him any time at all.
And then the song does something sweet. After the people praise God, a blessing comes right back to them. It says, “May the Lord bless you. May the One who made heaven and earth watch over you.”
So they praise God, and God sends His care right back. That is a perfect way to end the day - saying thank You to God, and feeling Him watch over you as you go to sleep.
