Psalm 147 is a happy praise song about a God who is big enough to name every star and gentle enough to mend a broken heart.
Today's Story
“Praise the Lord!” the song begins. “It is good to sing to our God. Singing praise to Him is a happy, beautiful thing!”
Then the song tells us something wonderful. The very same God who is so strong and so big does the gentlest things too.
“He heals hearts that are broken,” the song says. “When someone is sad and hurting inside, God gently bandages them up and helps them feel better.”
And how big is this God? “He counts all the stars in the sky,” the song says. “There are more stars than anyone could ever count - but God knows every single one, and He gives them each a name!”
The God who names the stars also takes care of the whole earth. He fills the sky with clouds. He sends rain to the ground. He makes green grass grow on the hills. And when the baby birds open their mouths and cry, He gives them food.
In the winter, He sprinkles snow like soft white wool and scatters frost like sparkly dust. Then, when He says the word, the warm wind blows and everything melts again.
What a great and kind God! “Praise the Lord!”

Talk About It
- The song says God heals hearts that are sad. When you feel sad inside, what helps you feel better?
- God knows the name of every star, and there are too many to count! If God knows all the stars by name, what does that tell you about how well He knows you?
- God sends rain and snow and feeds the baby birds. What is your favorite kind of weather, and how does it show God taking care of the world?
