Psalms 16 for Kids

For Kids · 3 min with a grown-up

Psalm 16 is a happy song King David sang when his heart felt safe and glad with God.

Today's Story

King David starts his song by running straight to God. “My God, keep me safe,” he sings. “I go to You for safety.”

Have you ever run to a grown-up you trust when something scared you? You grab their hand and right away you feel better. That is exactly how David feels about God.

David thinks about all the good things God has given him, and he smiles. He says God is the best gift of all. Everything good in his life is like a present he gets to open.

“I keep my eyes always on the Lord,” David sings. He keeps looking to God the way you keep your eyes on someone holding your hand in a big crowd. As long as God is near, David is not shaky or afraid.

And then comes the happiest line of all. David tells God: You always show me the path of life. You fill me with joy when I am with You.

Being with God is not boring or scary. It is the gladdest place there is. God knows the way, and He is glad to walk it with you.
