Psalms 17 for Kids

For Kids · 3 min with a grown-up

Psalm 17 is a prayer King David prayed when he needed God to keep him safe. He knew God was listening.

Today's Story

King David was having a hard day. Some people were not being kind to him, and he felt worried.

So David did the very best thing. He talked to God. “My God, I call out to You because You will answer me,” he prayed. “Listen to me. Hear my prayer.”

David did not use fancy words. He just told God the truth about how he felt. He knew God was already leaning in to listen, the way a loving parent does.

Then David asked God for help with two of the most tender pictures in the whole Bible. “Take good care of me,” he prayed, “just as You would take care of Your own eyes.” Think about how carefully you protect your eyes - that is how carefully God watches over you.

And then: “Hide me in the shadow of Your wings.” David pictured God like a giant bird tucking a little chick safely under its warm, soft feathers.

When you feel worried or small, you can pray David's prayer. God is listening. He keeps you as carefully as His own eyes, and He tucks you in close.

  1. Is there something worrying you right now, even a small thing? You can tell God about it - what would you say?
  2. David says God keeps him as carefully as his own eyes. How does it feel to know God cares about you that much?
  3. David pictures God hiding him under warm wings. Where is a place you feel cozy and safe?
