Psalm 18 is a great big thank-you song. King David wrote it after God rescued him from danger.
Today's Story
King David had been in real trouble. He was scared and stuck, and there was no way out by himself.
So he called out to God for help. And God came.
David tells it like the most exciting rescue ever. He says the ground shook and the sky rumbled. God came down from heaven to save him, fast and strong, like nothing could stop Him.
Then David gives the most wonderful picture of all. He says it felt like he was sinking in deep, deep water, going under, unable to swim. And God reached all the way down, took hold of him, and lifted him up and out.
“He brought me out into a wide and safe place,” David sings. After being stuck and scared, David could finally breathe. He was free. He was safe. And he knew exactly who had saved him.
So David begins his whole song with five happy words: I love You, Lord. God had been his rock, his strong and safe place. When God rescues you, the best thing to do is say thank You - and tell Him you love Him too.
