Psalms 2 for Kids

For Kids · 3 min with a grown-up

Psalm 2 is a song about the biggest, strongest King of all - and how God picks Him.

Today's Story

This song begins with people stomping around and grumbling. Kings and leaders from all over the earth get together. They fold their arms and say, “We don't want God telling us what to do. Let's do whatever WE want!”

And what does God do up in heaven? He laughs. Not a mean laugh - more like the way a parent smiles when a tiny toddler says, “I'm the boss of the whole world!” God is so big and so strong that no one can ever push Him off His throne.

Then God says something wonderful. “I have already chosen My own King,” He says. This King is special. God loves Him like a Son. And one day, the whole wide world - every country, every island, every faraway place - will belong to Him.

So the song gives some advice to all those grumbling kings: stop fighting God. Come be His friend instead! The song says, “Serve the Lord and be glad.” Everyone who runs to God for safety is happy.

A Big Word

Memory Verse

Talk About It

  1. The grumbling kings wanted to be the boss of everything. When is it hard for YOU to let someone else be in charge?
  2. God laughs because nobody is bigger than He is. How does it feel to know the strongest One of all loves you?
  3. The song says everyone who runs to God is safe. What is something you can run to God about today?
