Psalms 26 for Kids

For Kids · 3 min with a grown-up

Psalm 26 is a song King David sang when he wanted to live true to God - on the inside and the outside, where no one else can see.

Today's Story

Did you know God can see things no one else can see? Not just your face and your hands, but the thoughts inside your head and the feelings inside your heart. King David knew that - and he wasn't scared of it. He was glad.

David prayed something most people would be afraid to pray. He said, “Test me, Lord. Look right inside me. Know my heart.” It was like opening every door in his house and saying, “Come in, God. Look anywhere You want.”

Why would David do that? Because he was trying his best to live true to God - true all the way through, not just pretending on the outside. He tried to tell the truth, to keep away from mean things, and to do what was right.

And David had a favorite place. He sang, “Lord, I love the house where You live. I love being where Your glory shines.” David loved being close to God more than anything.

So David walked through his days knowing God was always watching - and instead of hiding, he said, “Look, God. I want to be true to You, inside and out.”

A Big Word

Memory Verse

Talk About It

  1. God can see the thoughts and feelings inside you that no one else can see. How does it feel to know God knows the real you - and loves you anyway?
  2. David wanted to be the same on the inside as the outside. What does it look like to be honest and true, even when no one is watching?
  3. David said he loved being close to God. Where or when do YOU feel close to God?
