Psalm 27 is a brave song. King David wrote it when he was in trouble and scared - and he sang it to make his heart strong again.
Today's Story
King David is in trouble. Mean people want to hurt him. His heart is pounding. He could be very, very afraid.
But instead of staying scared, David starts to sing.
“The Lord is my light,” he sings. “The Lord keeps me safe. So who do I need to be afraid of? Nobody!”
When you are in a dark room, even a tiny light helps. You can see the door. You can see your way. David says God is like that light. With God close, the dark is not so scary.
David says there is one thing he wants more than anything. Not toys. Not gold. He wants to be close to God every single day - like a child who just wants to sit on a parent's lap.
“If trouble comes,” David sings, “God will hide me in a safe place, high up where nothing can reach me.”
Then David tells his own heart what to do. “Be brave,” he says. “Wait for God. He is coming to help.”

Talk About It
- What is something that makes you feel scared - the dark, big dogs, the first day of something new?
- David told his own heart, “Be brave. God is coming to help.” What could you say to your own heart the next time you feel afraid?
- David wanted to be close to God more than anything else. What is something you really, really want?
