Psalm 28 is a song that starts sad and ends happy. King David calls out to God for help - and then he gets so glad he sings thank You.
Today's Story
King David has a heavy heart. Something is wrong, and he needs help. So he does the very best thing you can do when you feel that way: he talks to God.
“Please hear me, God,” David prays. “Please don't be quiet. I am holding up my hands to You, like a little kid reaching up to be picked up.”
David waits. He trusts that God is listening.
And then something wonderful happens inside David. He feels sure that God heard him. His sad, heavy heart starts to feel light again. Joy bubbles up!
“The Lord is my strength,” David sings. “He is my shield. He helps me, so my heart jumps for joy. I will sing thank You to Him!”
A shield is what soldiers held in front of them to stay safe. David is saying God goes in front of him and keeps him safe.
At the end, David prays for everybody, not just himself. “God, take care of all Your people. Carry them like a shepherd carries his sheep.”
