Psalms 31 for Kids

For Kids · 3 min with a grown-up

Psalm 31 is a trusting song for a hard day. King David is having a really tough time - so he gives his whole self to God and says, “I trust You to take care of me.”

Today's Story

King David is having a really hard time. People are being unkind. He feels worn out and sad. He needs a safe place to hide.

So David runs to God. “You are my rock,” he prays. “You are my strong, safe place. I run to You and hide.”

Think of a giant rock so big and tall that no wind and no waves could ever knock it down. You could hide behind it and be completely safe. David says God is like that.

Then David says something very brave and very trusting. He prays, “Into Your hands I give my life. I trust You with all of me.”

It is like jumping into a parent's strong arms, sure that they will catch you. David hands God his worries, his fears, his whole self.

And his heart fills up with hope. “I will be glad,” David sings, “because I know You love me and You see me.”

At the end David says to everyone: “Be strong. Don't give up. Keep hoping in God!”

Talk About It

  1. When you have a hard day, where do you like to go to feel safe? Who do you want to be near?
  2. David called God his rock - a strong, safe place that can never be knocked down. What does it feel like to know God is that strong for you?
  3. Is there a worry you are carrying right now that you could hand over to God, like David did?
