Psalms 32 for Kids

For Kids · 4 min with a grown-up

Psalm 32 is a happy song about feeling clean and free again. King David had done something wrong and tried to hide it - until he told God the truth.

Today's Story

King David had done something wrong. And he made it worse by trying to hide it. He kept it a secret, even from God.

But hiding it did not feel good. David says it felt heavy, like carrying a backpack full of rocks. He felt yucky inside, all day long. Hiding a wrong thing is so tiring!

Finally David could not carry it anymore. So he told God the truth. He said, “God, I did something wrong. I am sorry.”

And do you know what God did? God forgave him. Right away. God took the heavy backpack of rocks off David's shoulders and carried it away.

Suddenly David felt light and clean and free, like jumping in cool water on a hot day. The yucky feeling was gone!

“How happy is the person whose wrongs are forgiven!” David sings. “God, You are my hiding place. You keep me safe. So I will sing for joy!”

David learned you never have to hide from God. You can always tell Him the truth, and He will forgive you.

A Big Word

Memory Verse

Talk About It

  1. David said hiding a wrong thing felt heavy, like a backpack full of rocks. Have you ever felt yucky inside after doing something you knew was wrong?
  2. When David told God the truth and said sorry, the heavy feeling went away. Why do you think telling the truth helps us feel better?
  3. God is called a “hiding place” that keeps us safe. Who is someone you can always tell the truth to, even when you make a mistake?
