Psalm 34 is a thank-you song. King David wrote it after God kept him safe when he was very afraid.
Today's Story
King David had been in big trouble. He was scared and far from home, and he did not know what would happen. So he did the bravest thing of all - he called out to God for help. And God heard him. God kept him safe.
So now David writes a song to say thank You. “I will praise the Lord all the time,” he sings. “His praise will always be on my lips.” He is so happy he wants everyone to be happy with him. “Let us honor the Lord together!”
Then David says a wonderful thing. He says, “Taste and see that the Lord is good.” What does that mean? Think about a food you love. How did you find out it was yummy? You took a bite! You tasted it. David says God is like that. You find out how good God is by coming close to Him and trusting Him yourself.
And here is the best part. David sings that God is very close to people whose hearts are broken. When you are sad, God is near. When you are scared and you call out, God leans in to listen. He does not stay far away. He comes close.
So David says, “Try it and see - the person who runs to God for help is blessed and happy!”
