Psalm 4 is an evening song. King David sang it when the sun was going down and it was almost time to sleep.
Today's Story
The day was over and the sky was getting dark. King David sat down to talk to God before bed.
“Answer me when I call, God,” David said. “You have helped me so many times before. Please listen now.” David knew that God always heard him - like a good friend who never walks away.
Some people around David felt grumpy and worried. So David gave them gentle advice: “Don't let your worries get the best of you. When you lie in bed tonight, get still and quiet, and trust God.”
Then David noticed something. Some people only feel happy when they get lots of stuff - more toys, more treats, more things. But David said his heart was MORE glad than that, just from knowing God loved him. That kind of glad doesn't run out.
And so, with a calm and happy heart, David lay down. “I will lie down and sleep in peace,” he said, “because You alone keep me safe.”
