Psalms 40 for Kids

For Kids · 4 min with a grown-up

Psalm 40 is a happy thank-you song King David sang after God rescued him and gave him a brand-new song to sing.

Today's Story

Imagine you slipped into a deep, muddy pit. The sides are slippery. Your feet sink in the mud. You can't climb out no matter how hard you try.

That's how King David felt inside. He was stuck and worn out. So he called to God… and then he did a hard thing. He waited. He waited patiently, trusting that God would come.

And God did! “He reached down and lifted me out,” David sang. God pulled him up out of the slippery mud and set his feet on a big, solid rock. Now David could stand. Now David could walk. His feet weren't slipping anymore.

David was so happy that he couldn't keep quiet. “God put a new song in my mouth,” he said - a thank-you song nobody had ever sung before. He wanted everyone to hear how good God is.

Then David said the best part: “Lord, I love to do what You want. Your words are deep inside my heart.” God had rescued him, and now David just wanted to make God smile.
