Psalm 47 is a loud, happy song. It tells everyone, everywhere, to clap and cheer because God is the great King.

Have you ever cheered so loud at a game or a party that your hands got tired from clapping? This song wants everyone to cheer like that - for God!
“Clap your hands, all of you!” the song begins. “Shout to God with happy voices!”
Why all the cheering? Because God is the King - not just of one town or one country, but of the whole big world. The mountains, the oceans, every land and every people - God is King over all of it.
The song says everyone gets to sing. “Sing praises to God! Sing praises! Sing praises to our King! Sing praises!” It says it again and again because the people are so glad they cannot stop.
Picture trumpets blowing and a great crowd shouting for joy. That is the happy noise of this psalm.
God is good, and God is in charge, and that is the best news there is. So clap! Cheer! Sing! Our King is wonderful.
