Psalm 49 is a wise song with a question for everyone: what really matters most? It reminds us that money is not the most important thing - God is.
Today's Story
“Listen, everybody!” the singer says. “Rich people and not-so-rich people, big and small - I have something wise to tell you.”
Here is his question: have you ever seen someone with lots and lots of stuff - a big house, fancy toys, piles of money - and wished you had it too?
The singer says, do not let that worry you. Money is nice, but it cannot buy the things that matter most. It cannot buy you a happy heart. It cannot buy more love. And no amount of money can keep someone alive forever.
The richest person and the poorest person both need the same thing: God. Stuff comes and goes. Toys break. Money gets spent. But God stays with us always.
So the singer is not jealous of rich people at all. He trusts God instead. “God will take care of me,” he says. “God holds my life safe in His hands.”
That is the wise way to live - not chasing stuff, but holding tight to God.
A Big Word
Talk About It
- Has there ever been a time you wished you had something another kid had? What was it?
- The singer says money cannot buy the best things. What are some good things in your life that money could never buy?
- If money is not the most important thing, what do you think is? Why?
