Psalm 52 is a song King David wrote about a strong man who was very unkind and very proud. David shows us a better way to live.
Today's Story
There was a man who thought he was a big deal.
He was strong, and he had lots of stuff, and he liked to brag about it. But he wasn't kind. He told lies that hurt people, and he didn't care. He thought being strong meant he could do whatever he wanted.
King David watched this man and wrote a song about him. “Why do you brag about being bad?” David sang. A bully might look strong for a while, but it doesn't last. Trusting in stuff and meanness is like building a sandcastle right where the waves come in.
Then David sang about himself, and it was so different. “I am like a green olive tree,” he said, “growing in God's house.” An olive tree planted in good soil grows strong and lives a long, long time.
David wasn't trusting in being tough. He was trusting in God's love that never, ever runs out. “I trust in God's faithful love forever and ever,” he sang.
You don't have to be the biggest or the toughest. You just have to stay close to God, like a little tree with its roots down deep.
A Big Word
Memory Verse
Talk About It
- Have you ever seen someone brag or act like a bully? How did it make the people around them feel?
- David said he was like a strong olive tree because he stayed close to God. What helps you stay close to God?
- What is one kind thing you could do today instead of showing off?
