Psalm 54 is a short “help me” song. King David was in big trouble, so he prayed a quick prayer - and watch how fast he feels safe again.
Today's Story
King David was in trouble. Some people were after him and wanted to hurt him, and David had nowhere to hide.
What do you do when you're scared and there's nowhere to go? David knew exactly what to do. He prayed.
“God, save me!” he cried. “Hear my prayer. Listen to the words I am saying.” David didn't use fancy words. He just told God he was scared and asked for help, fast.
And then something changed inside David. As he prayed, he remembered who God is. “God is my helper,” he said. “The Lord is the one who keeps me safe.”
Suddenly David wasn't shaking anymore. The people chasing him hadn't even left yet - but David felt safe, because he knew God was right there with him, stronger than anyone.
By the end of his little song, David was even saying thank You. “I will thank You, God, because You are good.” That's what praying does. It reminds us we are never, ever alone.
A Big Word
Memory Verse
Talk About It
- When something scares you, what do you usually do first? What would it be like to pray first, the way David did?
- David felt safe before his trouble was even gone - just because he remembered God was with him. Have you ever felt better just by talking to God?
- David ended his scared song by saying thank You. What is one thing you can thank God for right now?
