Psalm 55 is a song King David sang when his heart felt heavy. He was sad and worried - and a friend had hurt his feelings. Here is what he did with all those big feelings.
Today's Story
King David was having a really hard day. His heart felt heavy, like he was carrying a giant backpack full of rocks.
He was scared. He was sad. And the hardest part of all? A friend - someone he trusted and liked - had hurt his feelings. That kind of sad goes deep.
David felt like he just wanted to fly far away. “If only I had wings like a dove,” he sang. “I would fly off and find a quiet, peaceful place to rest.” Have you ever felt like that?
But David didn't fly away. He did something better. He turned to God and told Him everything - in the morning, at noon, and at night. He didn't hold any of it inside.
Then David found the secret that changed his whole heavy day. He sang, “Give your worries to the Lord, and He will take care of you. He will keep you steady.”
It's like taking off that heavy backpack of rocks and handing it to God to carry. God is big enough to hold all our worries - even the ones about friends who let us down. And when we give them to Him, our hearts feel light again.
A Big Word
Memory Verse
Talk About It
- What is something that has been worrying you lately? (It's okay to say it out loud - that's the first step to giving it to God.)
- Have you ever had a friend hurt your feelings, like David did? What helped, or what would help?
- David said worries feel like a heavy backpack. What do you think it feels like to hand that backpack to God?
